陳可辛新作「武俠」14日安排在坎城首映，他在坎城表示，他這一代的人是與武俠片一起長大。隨著技術發展，觀眾要求越來越多的武打招數，然而他對於在電影中流很多血、死很多人等畫面感到不解，也懷疑一個人如何能跳躍10公尺高。他認為這些呈現較像魔術或科幻片。陳可辛在「武俠」片中，不惜以繪圖、特效方式解釋穴道和相關解剖學。在鄉野景象中，配襯的音樂有和諧田園、搖滾、懸疑等，緊扣氣氛張力，觀眾感受到十足現代感。
陳可辛在坎城表示，這是他這一輩子第一次拍中國文化的素材。挑選拍攝的地點在雲南，原因是雲南還沒有經常出現，另一原因也是因為雲南不是非常中國。片中有點香鬧鐘、民歌、傳統造紙、喪禮、成年禮等民俗、文物，呈現中國內地地域性特殊迷人色彩。另外，也因為在雲南拍攝，劇組工作人員經四川轉機才能進去拍攝地。給予演員金城武採用四川口音說話的靈感。陳可辛表示，這個點子是金城武自己跑來建議的。在他嘗試了不同口音後，導演發現有助金城武飾演另一個人，效果很好，決定留用。
金城武表示，在戲中對戲時，其他演員甄子丹、湯唯常常聽不懂他台詞。他笑說，我就跟他們說不要管我，我也不知道我在說什麼。
陳可辛說，金城武在本片中的演出有如北野武。金城武表示，導演就是要他演一個不規則、醜醜的人。
