Sydney Pays Respect To Victims After 16 Hour Siege

We have lost a number of our own citizens, in an attack we thought we’d never see here in our city.

But the values we held dear yesterday we hold dear today. They are the values of freedom, democracy and harmony.

They defined us yesterday. They define us today. They will define us tomorrow.

Our first thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims their families and friends of this vicious, horrendous attack.

I want to say to their family and friends, everyone in NSW stands beside you.

Today.

Tomorrow.

Forever.

I pay tribute to the men and women of the NSW Police who saved many lives during this horrific event and risked their lives in doing so. I also want to pay tribute to all other emergency services workers and authorities who provided vital assistance.

My thoughts remain with those hostages who have been freed. Every care they need at this traumatic time will be made available to them.

We are a peaceful, harmonious society that is the envy of the world.

How we react in coming days will show who we are. We will come through this.

While we grieve, we must go about our usual lives and we must come together like never before. We are stronger together and we will get through this together.

澳洲發生人質事件震驚全球，雖然造成恐懼，但事件中也見人性光輝。澳洲媒體報導，在本次事件中共有兩名人質罹難，咖啡店經理強森為了保護大家而死，女律師卡翠納．道森則為了保護懷孕的同事而犧牲。當地電視台女主播在現場連線時得知道森死訊時忍不住激動落淚，而事件現場不斷湧入人們悼念的鮮花，當地花店被搶購一空。

澳洲媒體報導，34歲的強森16日凌晨看到槍手打起瞌睡，他認為這是幫助大家逃命的大好機會，便撲向槍手手中的獵槍，但被槍手擊斃。他的雙親在得知他的死訊後，在網路上寫道：「我們以我們出色的兒子為榮，雖然他死去，但永存於我們心中。謝謝所有幫助我們的朋友、同胞，還有那些幫我們禱告的所有人。」


根據強森個人網頁顯示，他從2012年10月開始到瑞士蓮咖啡店上班。瑞士蓮咖啡執行長洛安在臉書專頁上說，強森工作認真盡責，和顧客互動良好，店內員工都很愛他。


另一名罹難的38歲道森是澳洲知名律師，她的死訊震驚澳洲法律界。她的丈夫史密斯是澳洲六大律師事務所之一的金杜律師事務所合夥人，兩人育有兩女一子，分別為8歲、5歲和3歲。澳洲媒體報導，她的孩子已得知母親過世的消息。

道森家世背景亮麗，父親是英國皇家古典高爾夫俱樂部隊長，曾任澳洲最大的餅乾公司董事總經理，兩個哥哥其中一個是澳洲知名媒體律師，另一人是麥肯錫諮詢公司的董事。

媒體報導，道森每天到瑞士蓮買咖啡，15日那天她和另外兩名同事一起去，沒想到碰上人質事件。目擊者說，警方攻入咖啡店後，道森為了保護懷孕的同事而死。
